Fresno State Alumni Association Endorses Prop. 30

The Board of Directors' of the Fresno State Alumni Association (FSAA) has passed a resolution endorsing Proposition 30: Sales and Income Tax Increase.

"Without Prop. 30 passing on Nov. 6th, the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system will be faced with a 'trigger cut' of $250 million. The 'trigger cut' to Fresno State would be more than $13 million." reported Clyde Ford, president of the board of directors' of the FSAA. "Fresno State alumni and friends are urged to support Prop. 30, and in turn, support Fresno State and the CSU."

Rocky HorrorThree Fresno State students and alumni are appearing in the Artists' Repertory Theatre production of "Rocky Horror Show" – Alexis Garriott (2009) as Janet; Hal Bolen, II (1971) as the Narrator; and Katherine Dorian (Student) as Magenta. UrinetownSix Fresno State alumni are appearing in "Urinetown – The Musical" being presented by the College of Sequoias from Nov. 9th to 17th in Visalia, Calif. They are: Christopher Mangels (1996), director; Terry Lewis (Alumnus) as Officer Lockstock and vocal coach; Danielle Jorn (Alumna) as Penelope Pennywise; Taylor Abels (2012) as Hope Cladwell; Daniel Rodriguez (2012) as Bobby Strong; and Matthew Freitas (2012) as McQueen.

Matt MazzeiMatthew Mazzei (2010) was guest violin soloist with the Kings County Symphony performing "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso" by Saint-Saëns on Oct. 21st at Hanford High School. He is the founder of the internationally-recognized Rainbow Delegation and is also a graduate student majoring in violin performance.

Joel PickfordJoel Pickford (2009) has an exhibit titled "Soul Calling: A Photographic Journey through the Hmong Diaspora" on display at the Fresno Art Museum through Jan. 6, 2013. The project, which took eight years to complete, highlights the stories of the Hmong community in Laos, their journeys to the United States and the San Joaquin Valley, and their integration into American culture and society. Brian TurnerBrian Turner (1994), a nationally-recognized and award-winning poet, had his book "Here, Bullet" highlighted in "Parade" (Oct. 21, 2012) in the article titled Giving Voice to the War. "The strongest poems from Brian Turner's collection distill broth grisly reality and the unlikely flashes of beauty he witnessed during his year in Iraq as a [U.S. Army] infantry team leader," said the sidebar column. He was recognized at the 2010 Top Dog Alumni Awards by the Fresno State Alumni Association, on behalf of the College of Arts and Humanities. Turner is currently on the faculty of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nev.

 

Timothy WhiteDr. Timothy P. White (1970) has been named the new chancellor of the 23-campus California State University system, which includes Fresno State. He is currently the chancellor of the University of California, Riverside.
