Emergency Notification & Evacuation

Emergency Notification

In the event of a significant emergency or dangerous situation that may involve an immediate or ongoing threat to the health and safety of the Fresno State campus community, Fresno State Police Department will immediately notify the campus community or the appropriate section of the campus community that may be affected by the situation. Fresno State’s partial or total response to the situation will be dictated by the type and magnitude of the emergency. Upon the confirmation, the Fresno State Police Chief or designee will determine whether or not the incident involves a significant emergency or dangerous situation warranting immediate notification or unless the notification at that time will compromise efforts to contain the emergency. A decision about the content and method of initial notification may be made solely by Fresno State Police Chief or designee as first responders or through a coordinated effort among Fresno State Police. Follow-up information will be disseminated to the campus community through one or more of the methods of notification listed below.

Fresno State has multiple methods of notification in place for communicating emergency information to the campus community. In most situations, multiple methods of notification may be utilized by Fresno State to ensure effective dissemination of information to as many affected individuals as possible. Campus emergency methods of notification may include, but are not limited to, outdoor speakers, voice over IP messages to campus phones, emergency radio station, emergency hotline, building safety coordinators, campus email system for faculty, staff and students, campus websites, and/or portable electronic signboards.
