CAIFE 3.0 (2018-19)
There are 13 Bold Ideas being implemented through 10 project teams as part of CAIFE 3.0. Each of the projects align with one of the four strategic priorities.
Student appointments are forthcoming. Check back for more information once the teams begin their work in Fall 2018.
STRATEGIC PRIORITY 1
Kids Locker and Diaper Bank
Idea submitted by: Dr. Susan Schlievert and Dr. Jennifer Randles

Summary of idea: A bring-and-take space for families. Combine with idea to create diaper bank for parenting students who experience diaper need as impediment to academic success.
Purpose Statement: TO improve quality of life, increase opportunity, and improve sense of connectedness
and belonging for student parent at Fresno State BY supporting basic needs, specifically
diapers and children’s clothing, that have strong implications for student parents’
finances, mental health, and academic outcomes.
Status:Cabinet fully supported team recommendations.Diaper Bank in place at Student Cupboard and Lil Bulldog Boutique collecting donations.
Graduate School at Fresno State

Center/Clearinghouse for Undergraduate Research

Purpose Statement: TO transform student’s perception of the value of research in their undergraduate

Faculty/Staff Recognition Program

Summary of Idea: Create program to recognize staff and faculty for exemplary work. Combine with idea to create a unified Fresno State digital badging and credential platform.
Purpose Statement: TO increase employee engagement and satisfaction BY creating a system that recognizes
employee skill sets & celebrates accomplishments.
Status: Cabinet supported all recommendations and provided funding to launch High Five program, introduce faculty service awards and introduce staff achievement awards.

Summary of Idea: Create advocacy and awareness participatory video with LGBTQ students, faculty and staff.
Purpose Statement: TO foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ staff, faculty and students
and to inform prospective students and their parents about that environment BY creating
a series of short educational videos for the web social media & trainings about: Support
services, the community, on campus, bystander

Student Assistant Mentor Program

Summary of Idea: Create a student assistant mentor program and other appropriate professional development programming for student assistants.
Purpose Statement: TO develop, mentor & empower our student staff for success at both Fresno State and
future employment BY creating a standardized on-boarding process, continued training
program and mentorship possibilities which support student success and employee development.
Status: Cabinet fully supported recommendation. Career Development Center to take lead in implementation with support from Organizational Excellence, Human Resources and Student Involvement.

Summary of Idea: Create a Maker Space on campus for use by students and community. Existing space in engineering, Ag or library could be re purposed.
Purpose Statement: TO inspire transformative learning and co-curricular experiences that foster creativity,
innovation, collaboration, development, and student success BY creating a signature
space along with a network of resources for the Fresno State community (and beyond).
Status: Cabinet supportive of concept. Faculty consultation and implementation options being explored.

Blended Arts Festival

Summary of Idea: Create an opportunity for artists from the campus community to network with other artists and showcase students’ artwork.
Purpose Statement: TO provide a space for student-driven interdisciplinary artistic production and showcase
BY designing a cost-efficient and sustainable Blended Arts festival model that utilizes
existing resources on campus.
Status: Cabinet supported concept and proposed model and matched IRA funding. Cabinet members appointed to Blended Arts Executive Committee. Students to take lead.
Bulldog Transfer Center
