Shift differential is additional pay to an employee scheduled to work shifts other than 6 AM to 6 PM standard day shift.
Because work schedules are known in advance, departments can submit the Miscellaneous Pay Form at the beginning of the pay period to Payroll Services.
Eligibility for Shift Differential
The CSU Salary Schedule indicates shift differential eligibility under the Shift Differential category of the class in which the employee is assigned.

Overtime on Shift Differential
For some bargaining units, if an evening or night shift employee works overtime, their overtime rate is based on their regular rate of pay plus the shift differential he or she receives. (Refer to Collective Bargaining Unit Agreements referenced in the Shift Differential Table above.)
