University Committments
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno share equal concern for the environmental challenges facing the San Joaquin Valley due to increased population, climate change, and the need to promote a healthy economy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno have both taken leadership roles in seeking innovative and cost-effective solutions for these challenges; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno adopted the "Fresno Green - The city of Fresno's Strategy for Achieving Sustainability", as presented by Mayor Autry and Councilmember Perea on April 23, 2007; and
WHEREAS, the California State University, Fresno signed the Talloires Declaration and created the Department of Risk Management and Sustainability in order to place additional focus on Fresno State's efforts to be role model in sustainable practices; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno have enjoyed a long and productive relationship in working on past challenges that effect our region; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno both recognize that, in order to successfully meet the challenges facing our region, collaborative working relationships will be essential; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno have identified common areas of interest within all give Fresno Green Visions, New City Beautiful, Sierra View 2025, Solar Valley, Green Enterprises and Economic Development, and City as Good Steward; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor, City Council, and California State University, Fresno do hereby proclaim an on-going collaborative working partnership to exist between both organizations to establish sustainable solutions for the environmental challenges facing the citizens of the San Joaquin Valley; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this partnership shall be known as the "Univer/City Sustainability Initiative."
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto set our hands and affixed the Seal of the City of Fresno, California and the Seal of California State University, Fresno on this 25th day of March, 2008.
