According to the campus Chemical Hygiene Plan - Employees shall be informed of the following:
- The location and availability of known reference materials on the hazards, safe handling, storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals found in the laboratory including, but not limited to, MSDSs received from the chemical supplier.
As a part of campus Recommendations Concerning Chemical Hygiene in Laboratories
- Amounts permitted should be as small as practical. Storage on bench tops and in hoods is inadvisable. Exposure to heat or direct sunlight should be avoided. Periodic inventories should be conducted, with unneeded items being discarded or returned to the storeroom/stockroom. Care must always be taken to ensure incompatible materials and wastes are stored separate from one another. As stated above the MSDS is likely to be the best source of compatibility information for new materials. Another great source of compatibility information, that is more geared towards waste, is the EPA Chemical Compatibility Chart.
