Chemical Inventories - Campus Requirements
EHS staff asks that you submit a updated chemical inventory no less than once a year. The due date for this refresh is the Friday following spring break every year. For questions or assistance with completing your annual update please contact the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management and Sustainability (EHS RMS)at (559) 278-7422.
Please note the "Submission Methods" resources provided to the right. Although not required, EHS does prefer you use one of these methods. Inventory submissions will be accepted in any form, provided it supplies EHS with the minimum information required in the sample forms to the right. For the electronic submission forms you must choose the option "Save" to a location somewhere on your computer then email that inventory to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submitted inventories (unless otherwise indicated) will replace all previously submitted inventories. If you wish to update the inventory that EHS has on file see the "Other Resources" link to request a copy.
Chemical Inventories - Regulatory Requirements
According to California Health and Safety Code - Section 25503.5 and 25514:
A Business Plan must be submitted by businesses that handles a hazardous material, or a mixture containing a hazardous material, in quantities equal to or greater than:
- 500 pounds of a solid.
- 55 gallons of a liquid.
- 200 cubic feet of a compressed gas at standard temperature and pressure.
- The federal Threshold Planning Quantity (TPQ) for Extremely Hazardous Substances (See ATTACHMENT A).
- Radioactive materials in quantities for which an Emergency Plan is required as per Parts 30, 40, or 70, Chapter 1 of Title 10 of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
It is our understanding that these threshold quantities are cumulative for the entire campus. For this reason, and for other OSHA employer required training and employee protection programs, your campus EHS RMS staff asks that you submit a updated chemical inventory no less than once a year. For questions or assistance with completing your annual update please contact EHS RMS at (559) 278-7422.
