In 2007, we installed two new memorial gardens on campus. The first is new Iris Garden to replace one that was lost during the construction of the Science 2 Building and the Department of Justice Crime Lab. This garden is located on the northeast side of the Peace Garden along the Psychology Building. We installed over 100 different varieties of bearded Iris. They are quite a site during bloom in the spring.
The second garden is a memorial for the students, faculty and staff of Virginia Tech who lost their lives on April 16, 2007. The new library landscape is a mix of native plantings and we wanted our memorial to blend and fit with the landscape for years to come. Therefore, we incorporated the same type of plant material in our memorial that will be placed in the new landscape.
