WAC Certificate Seminars
WAC is partnering with the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) to offer a seminar series during the 2017-18 academic year. You can participate in all of the seminars to earn a professional development certificate from the CFE. Or, you are welcome to attend any seminar that interests you if you're unable to complete the certificate. Click here for more information.
Writing-Intensive Course Design Workshop
Thursday, Dec. 7 from 11:30AM-1:30PM. In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore how to teach your discipline's writing conventions through original student research projects and immersing students in your discipline's scholarly conversations. This workshop is designed for any faculty member whose course includes writing assignments. Faculty designing or redesigning existing W courses or those preparing new W courses are especially encouraged to attend. RSVP here.
Faculty Learning Community (FLC)
This year's WAC FLC is titled "Social Justice and Writing Assignments: Identifying Our Linguistic and Cultural Biases." In this Faculty Learning Community, we’ll reflect on our own hidden linguistic, racial, and cultural biases—and we’ll examine how they shape our response to our students’ writing. We’ll also revise writing assignments and assessments from our courses so that we give Fresno State students opportunities to draw on their linguistic, racial, and cultural diversity as resources. Email Tom McNamara to register.
Email Tom McNamara to schedule an individual consultation. Individual consultations can focus on syllabus and assignment design, peer review and workshop strategies, and classroom activities that foster effective student writing.
Email Magda Gilewicz to schedule an in-class writing workshop for your students. Dr. Gilewicz and the Writing Center staff can work with you to design a workshop specifically for your class.
