The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) administers several programs that support faculty research activities, with an emphasis on activities that lead to the generation of external support through grants and contracts. The Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (RSCA) program provides $5,000 competitive awards annually, primarily for release time or summer pay. One of many selection criteria for these awards is the likelihood that they will lead to successful grants.
The Research Activity Awards (RAA) consist of more ambitious proposals that will provide significantly more financial support to pay for more assigned time and related expenses for a faculty member or team of faculty to develop proposals for major projects. The RAA criteria are tied almost exclusively to projects that have a high likelihood of attracting significant future funding.
Opportunities for students include the Central California Research Symposium and the California State University Student Research Competition, which promotes excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments.
