THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN RECRUITING CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FRESNO STUDENT VOLUNTEERS!

For the past 14 years, California State University, Fresno has been increasingly challenging students and faculty to become more active in their community. Civic Engagement and Service-Learning (CESL) is the vehicle we use to connect students with community agencies. We established CESL to:

  • Provide our students with "real-world" learning opportunities that enhance what is learned in the classroom.
  • Engage students, staff and faculty in addressing the various issues and problems confronting our society.
  • Foster a sense of civic responsibility and citizenship among our students.
  • Stimulate cooperation and coordination between Fresno State and traditional community service agencies.
  • Increase the service involvement of our students so that every Fresno State student has at least one significant community service-learning experience prior to graduation.

There are two ways you can recruit volunteers through the university. The first is to list your volunteer opportunities on http://www.volunteerfresno.org. This website provides you an opportunity to advertise volunteer openings to the entire Fresno community. This site is quickly becoming the premiere way to recruit volunteers from all walks of life.

The second resource is to use our Community Service Opportunities Form used to advertise service opportunities to our students. Using the link below, just download this form, complete it and return it to our office. Students can review the listings on file in the SCS office and select the opportunities that are of interest to them.

Please remember that there are well over 200 agencies currently recruiting student volunteers through our office. The more information you can provide, and the more exciting you can make your opportunities, the better. Please remember that many students are looking for major or career related opportunities which will allow them to gain experience in their chosen fields. When developing ideas for volunteer opportunities consider activities that may relate to students studies or professional interests. (Please note that the Community Service Opportunities Form is for listing ongoing volunteer opportunities and we do not normally advertise volunteer openings for one-time service events.)

Students can earn from 1-3 units of elective credit for successfully completing their service assignment in a given semester. You may want to remind students about this opportunity. For each unit of credit the student signs up for they must complete a minimum number of hours, depending on the specific course requirement. For more information, see http://www.fresnostate.edu/academics/cesl/compare.html or contact our office directly at (559) 278-7079.
