We are excited to announce the Alternative Spring Break project for 2020 and are currently recruiting participants.

Community Garden and Fresno State Outreach Day

Dates: April 6-9, 2020; plus pre- and post-event team meetings and trainings.

For the first three days of the project, participants will help install a community garden at the Bulldog Pantry. Activities will include building and preparing planter boxes, installing an irrigation system, planting, and general site beautification. The Bulldog Pantry is a student-run food pantry benefiting all members of the Fresno community and is located across the street from Fresno State. The community garden will provide an additional resource for the pantry in acquiring food to redistribute to the community as well as provide ongoing volunteer opportunities for future Fresno State students. On the fourth day of the project, we will partner with Stone Soup and Big Brothers Big Sisters to host a Fresno State Outreach Day. The children and families participating in this event will come from the neighborhoods directly adjacent to the campus, helping us to nurture relationships with our neighbors. This service project seeks students who are motivated and willing to try new things. Interest in gardening and children is a huge plus!

Participants are required to: 

• Attend ALL service days: April 6-9, 8:00am-3:00pm
• Participate in all 3 pre-service meetings/group trainings: Friday, March 20, March 27, and April 3, 3:30-5:30pm
• Attend 1 post-service meeting: Friday,April 24, 3:30-5:00pm
• **Be available to share the experience with the campus community at the Community Service Showcase on Thursday, May 7 between 11am - 1pm.

Cost: There is no cost for Fresno State students to participate, thanks to generous support from Associated Students, Inc. and Friends for Civic Engagement.
