Richter Center Services for Faculty and Staff

Service Matchmaking

Whether you’re searching for a new volunteer opportunity for yourself or looking for a community benefit organization to partner with for a classroom project, the Richter Center is a great place to start.  Call the office at 559.278.7079 to make an appointment with our Community Partnerships Coordinator to review your needs and provide a jumping-off point for your new service journey.  Additionally, each semester the Center hosts hundreds of community-based organizations on campus for volunteer recruitment events, service-related roundtables, and forums.  For more information, call the office or see our events webpage for dates of upcoming opportunities to interact with the community.

Another resource, especially in terms of finding a volunteer opportunity for yourself, is a searchable database of volunteer opportunities maintained by HandsOn Central California. 

Service Related Presentations

Richter Center staff members are available to provide service-related presentations covering topics such as the benefits of community service, how to find a volunteer opportunity, tips for a successful service experience, etc.  These presentations can be geared towards your students, staff, or a student club that you advise.  Contact the Richter Center at 559.278.7079 for more information or to schedule a presentation.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each year, the Richter Center coordinates short-term service activities for students, faculty, and staff.  These include on-campus blood drives, one-day volunteer projects in conjunction with a national or local day of service (such as Make a Difference Day), and local service events like Kid’s Day benefiting Children’s Hospital Central California.  All faculty and staff are encouraged to take part in these events.  Visit our events webpage for a current listing of upcoming service projects.

Support for Service in the Classroom

An important key to Fresno State’s community engagement success is incorporating service into the classroom.  Each year, the campus offers over 156 service-learning classes, where service projects are incorporated into course curriculum and allow students opportunities to serve the community while putting theory into practice.  Learn more about service-learning in the classroom.
