Reporting Service Hours

Each year, the Richter Center collects and records data on the amount of service being provided to our community by the university.  This includes data on service-learning classes, service related internships and fieldwork, and individual service provided by our faculty, staff, and students.

During the 2018-19 academic year, Fresno State provided 1,401,010 hours of service to the community!  In order to obtain this statistic, the Richter Center relies heavily on the responses from faculty and staff to our various surveys.  If you have received a survey and have questions, or if you have never been surveyed and you feel you work on a project or teach a course that could be considered service and would like to report it, please contact the Richter Center at 559.278.7079.

Report Your Personal Service Hours Online

In 2009, the Richter Center implemented a new online tool for faculty and staff to use to report their personal service hours.  This tool called “My Volunteer Record” is available through the Employee Self Service section of  See below for detailed instructions on how to use this service, including a video demonstrating the process.

Reporting your service is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3!

  1. Log into your My Fresno State account
  2. Select “Volunteer Record” under the Employee Self Service Section
  3. Enter the dates, number of hours, and location of your service.  Be sure to report service completed during the current fiscal year (for example: July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019).

What Counts?

Voluntary community service, as used here, refers to any unpaid activities that benefit a community benefit organization, nonprofit, not-for-profit, government or religious organization. This may include direct service, membership on an advisory board, providing research or logistical support for projects, or any other type of service.

If you have questions about reporting service hours, or if you would like more information on volunteering, please contact Chris Fiorentino or Mellissa Jessen-Hiser in the Richter Center at 559.278.7079.
