Economics

Economics is the study of how societies are organized to produce the goods and services that sustain and enhance the life processes of the community. As a scientific discipline, economics engages in the systematic analysis of the production and distribution of income within and among nations. Since all important social policy issues have an economic dimension, the study of economics offers the student an opportunity to investigate the most challenging problems facing the world today.

The Department of Economics offers a well developed curriculum encompassing all the important subject areas of economic inquiry. Among the faculty are representatives of the major schools of economic thought. in both the scope of its curriculum and the diversity of its faculty, the Department of Economics offers the student an opportunity to develop those skills in analytical thinking that contribute to an individual's intellectual independence and self confidence in problem-solving processes. The department offers a bachelor's degree, a minor in international political economy and a minor in economics. Our economics students enter careers in business, government, banking, law and university teaching.
